He’s back!

Fantastic news here for all Jonathan Franzen fans after a five-year wait! His new novel called Purity will be out in September 2015. The author seduced both critics and the reading public with his book The Corrections in 2001, and was instantly recognised as an important new voice in American literature.

Literary prizes and accolades of all sorts ensued. Nine years later, Franzen followed up with the equally brilliant Freedom. As Time Magazine succinctly put it: ‘he shows us the way we live now’ and it really is as simple as that.

Franzen’s books are sprawling, multigenerational family sagas, traditional in their form but contemporary in their content. I’ve read Freedom and absolutely loved it. The Independent called it ‘the novel of the century’. The Corrections was equally well received (The Guardian).

His upcoming novel Purity was described by Franzen’s publisher as:

A multigenerational American epic that spans decades and continents. The story centers on a young woman named Purity Tyler, or Pip, who doesn’t know who her father is and sets out to uncover his identity. The narrative stretches from contemporary America to South America to East Germany before the collapse of the Berlin Wall and hinges on the mystery of Pip’s family history and her relationship with a charismatic hacker and whistleblower

Franzen was the first living author to feature on the cover of Time Magazine in a decade. Need I say more?
