This week’s most talked about book: Primates of Park Avenue by Wednesday Martin

Wednesday Martin’s book Primates of Park Avenue, an anthropological study of wealthy housewives on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, has been fiercely discussed in the media this week.

Apart from going undercover (in high heels and blonde hair) studying their shopping habits, social climbing, exercise regimes and tactics for getting their children in to the best schools, Martin has unearthed the concept of a ‘wife bonus’, a performance related payment tied to the success in all these areas. The New York Times was unimpressed claiming the book is a memoir dressed up a scientific study, while Upper East Side housewives are, unsurprisingly, less than amused.
