The Traitor’s Niche by Ismail Kadare is on the Man Booker International Prize long-list for 2017. I’m intrigued by the Ottoman Empire setting and the story of a courtier in charge of transporting the Sultan’s enemies severed heads…Knowing Kadare’s talent of claustrophobic descriptions of tyrannies this should be a dark, riveting read.
Grief Works by Julia Samuel, a grief psychotherapist with twenty-five years of experience in helping people deal with bereavement. The fact that this book is climbing up the bestseller lists goes to show the enormous need for more discussion and openness around death and mourning. I expect this will be food for thought.
