The Cannes Film Festival this week has been buzzing with praise for the film Carol, a lesbian love story from the 1950s starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

Although tipped as a possible Palm d’Or winner, we’re going to have to wait a while before it comes out in the UK (probably closer to Christmas). Why not read the book in the meantime?  The film is based on the book Carol by Patricia Highsmith, thriller writer and the author of the book behind another hugely successful film, The Talented Mr. Ripley.
